Garden maintenance that keeps on top of things

Most people don’t need a garden designer. They need someone reliable to cut the grass, keep the weeds down and stop the hedges and shrubs taking over. That is what our garden maintenance service is for, whether you want a one-off tidy-up or regular visits.

Grass cutting and lawn care

A tidy lawn makes the whole garden look looked-after. We cut the grass, tidy the edges and clear the cuttings away, so you are left with a clean lawn and nothing to sweep up.

How often a lawn needs cutting depends on the time of year. The RHS advice on mowing is roughly once a week in summer and every week or two in spring and autumn. If you want the lawn kept on top of through the growing season, we can come back regularly, weekly or every couple of weeks, so it never gets out of hand.

Weeding, borders and bark

Weeds in beds and borders are one of the first things to make a garden look neglected. We clear them out, tidy up the edges of the borders and cut back anything that has spread too far.

To keep the weeds from coming straight back, borders can be finished with a layer of bark. It holds moisture in the soil, cuts down on weeding and gives the beds a neat, finished look.

Pruning and garden tidy-ups

Shrubs that have been left to grow can block paths, windows and light. We prune them back into shape and clear out any dead growth.

If the whole garden has got away from you, a one-off tidy-up is often the best place to start. On a recent job in Bo’ness, the grass was cut and the shrubs pruned back, leaving the garden much neater and tidier.

Garden maintenance questions

Do you take the garden waste away?
Yes. Grass cuttings, weeds, branches and any other garden waste from the job are cleared and taken away before we leave, so you are not left with bags to get rid of.
How often should my grass be cut?
The RHS recommends cutting a lawn about once a week in summer, and every week or two in spring and autumn depending on how fast it is growing. In winter it rarely needs cutting, and never when the ground is wet or frozen.
Can you come back regularly?
Yes. We can come back on a regular basis through the growing season to keep the grass cut and the garden tidy. Tell Duncan how often you would like a visit and he will price it up for you.
Can you sort out a really overgrown garden?
Yes. If a garden has got away from you, we can cut it back, clear the beds and take all the waste away in one go. Give Duncan a call and describe it, or send a couple of photos, and he can tell you what is involved.
